Lithuanian Historical Organs. Samogitia
In December 2015, Centre for Lithuanian Organ Heritage released the 2nd CD Lithuanian Historical Organs. Samogitia (VPC 002, 2015).
Organist Balys Vaitkus
Sound engineer Petras Kričena
Project idea / management Girėnas Povilionis.
CD presents four historical organs included in the register of Lithuanian valuable cultural objects. They are situated in the churches in the Žemaitija (Samogitia) region of Lithuania – Varniai (Józef Woyciullewicz, 1821), Kartena (Paulus Gerardus Zelle, 1774), Mosėdis (unknown master/Friedrich Weissenborn, 1819/~1895) and Akmenė (Bruno Goebel, 1935). They survived completely or in fragments and have been restored in the last few years. The music compositions for this CD were selected by taking into account the stylistics of the organs and for exposition of the organ sound – the features of mechanics, variety of registers and timbres. The organ music on this CD is as it was recorded so all the blemishes are heard: in some of the instruments it is the faulty mechanism, the squeaking of the bellows or the whistling pipes. All this is the reality of the organ heritage.
Recorded on 18–20 August 2015. Published with the booklet (Lithuania, English, German, 32 p.).
